Giving things away requires just as much strategy and effort as selling them.
Last weekend, I put my last novel 'Life, Slightly' on free promo for a few days (Kindle only, not paperback).
It got 855 downloads in 5 days... this might not sound earth-shattering, but it's been out since 2022 and was enough to get it into the #1 spot across multiple Amazon categories.
The same 'value' issue came up with Ghostart when we launched the free Beta offer - 3 month's free on an unlimited plan as continue to develop is great, but if people don't know what Ghostart is and what it can do for them, why should they care?
There's a lot of work involved in communicating the value proposition and we're continually learning and evolving.
It took us a few weeks to crack it but it really feels like we've found our audience now and the beta is flying.
Lots of feedback, lots of improvements to the platform and a real feeling of momentum.
Anyone else faced challenges when giving something valuable away for free?
